Our inagural production BELOW by Ian Wilding, saw us become the first theatre company to make use of the purpose built 50 seat space known as ‘The Bakery’ which had just been completed in Upper Ferntree Gully adjoining the 1812 Theatre. This performance space dovetailed perfectly with the intimate style that SwampFox required for the staging of BELOW.
The play was set in an outback mining town where two English half brothers Dougie and John, and Dougies wife Sarah all live together in a ramshackle old mining hut, while the men eke out a living in the local mine.
BELOW examined how past events and secrets can impact on the present and considers how kinship and love impact on reality that is both harsh, brutal and strangely poetic.
Winner of the Arnotts/Griffin award for new playwriting.
