John Bishop (SwampFox Co-Founder)
John's love affair with live theatre began in 1971, when he first stepped onto the boards in a one act play for the 'Blackburn Players'. Over the past 30 years he has pursued a directorial career making his debut in 1981 with the Athenaeum Lilydale Theatre's 'Trap for A Lonely Man'. He has directed for a host of theatre companies and has been recognized many times, with awards for Best Director at The Waverley Festival of Theatre, the Lyrebird awards and has twice won the prestigious Victorian Drama League Gold Award for Best Director. His TV credits started with a guest role in the police drama 'Homicide'. Then followed guest roles on many shows over the years including "Blue Heelers", "Janus", "Carsons Law" and "The Sullivans" plus three years as Sgt Bowen on "Neigbours" John last appeared in 36 episodes of 'Something In The Air' at the A.B.C as 'Sniffy' a recalcitrant farmer as well as numerous other TV appearances. But his true love and passion has always remained with live theatre, which has finally culminated in the formation of SwampFox. Over the last five years, this production company has played to great acclaim in a purpose built venue in the Eastern Suburbs that caters for the edgy, challenging style of theatre Swampfox has become renowned for.
